Ilanit Litman is a fine artist born and raised under the wide Colombian skies in Cali, now calling California her home. At the heart of everything she makes is a modern love story with tradition, a deep, lifelong devotion to the discipline, beauty, and way of looking that classical art has carried across centuries.
Her work is rooted in finding beauty in the intimacy of observation. She believes that to look closely at something is to begin to understand it, and that this act of understanding, repeated with patience and devotion, is itself a form of beauty. Observing is a survival mechanism. Drawing and painting oblige her to set aside what she thinks she knows, to analyze every element with fresh eyes, and to build a real relationship with her subject over time.
"The beauty you live by, the beauty you live with, the beauty upon which you base your life." Navajo proverb
Across paintings, drawings, and series, the impulse in her work is always the same: to open a portal. A portal to intimacy, to inner sanctuary, to stillness. We live in a world governed by constant change and impermanence, where everything is in motion even as we inhabit what we call the present. Her work creates spaces where a moment can be held and preserved. A window to what cannot be taken away.
In a world that often rewards disruption, her rebellion is beauty. Her work holds space for peace, for belonging, for the kind of stillness that reminds us we are connected. And from that connection, something better becomes possible.
She trained at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts, beginning her studies in 2009. She was mentored by celebrated Colombian artists including Gabriel Silva, Alfonso Alvarez, Nicolas Uribe, Adriana Espinosa Calle, and Angelica Zorrilla. Since 2020 she has been deepening her classical technique through the Sadie Valeri Online Atelier in San Francisco. Her continuing education includes a certification in Modern Art and Ideas from the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Her work has been featured in Artist Closeup Contemporary Art Magazine, Issue #10, and exhibited at solo and group shows across Colombia.
